Melissa became quite a skilled egg dunker.

Megan decided that her fingers worked just as well as the special "egg-dunking" thing that comes in the box. (And besides, she didn't have to wait her turn to use her fingers!)
And Lacie . . . well, Lacie didn't participate in the actual dunking, but she did like the pretty "balls."
We opted not to take pictures of our miserable Easter Egg hunt. Had we done so, here's what you would be seeing:
Marked off fields full of candy--and only a few eggs for each age category.
Soaking wet parents and children.
Melissa--sobbing because she didn't get any eggs.
Megan--shivering uncontrollably, and leisurely checking out everything around her while forgetting to actually pick up the candy!
Lacie--Carefully examining one piece of candy while ignoring the piles of treats surrounding her.
Baskets full of soggy treats.
And finally, one soaked and grumpy family--except for Lacie--soaked to the skin, and blissfully happy with her basket full of treats! (She was the only kid to actually get an egg.)
If you didn't guess, it was raining, and we learned that we will choose a different hunt next year. The hunt was nice, and I am grateful to the organizers (the rain wasn't their fault), but we'll look for a hunt next year that actually has eggs. For some reason, the kids look so forward to those little plastic eggs! We hope to leave the hunt with a happy family next year!
It was a good time to point out that Easter is not about the candy and focus on the real reason we celebrate.
Just so I won't forget next year, here's a link to the idea I want to try for decorating eggs next year: silk eggs

Saturday was not a good day for an Easter egg hunt, that's for sure. Now you know why I do the Nature Center hunt, it's a lot of fun and the kids each get their "quota" of eggs. They only allow the kids to get a certain amount, so everyone will get some. Our plans on Saturday got a little ruined too, so I know how you feel.
Sorry to hear about the rainy egg hunt. Our neighborhood "hunt" is really more like a race because the whistle blows and kids run around like crazy for about 30 seconds and the eggs are gone. I guess at least we do have plastic eggs. Candy in a field just isn't the same. Hopefully next will be better.
