Avatar

I just got back from date night with Steve. (Hopefully, we'll keep this up. We don't get out much.) We saw Avatar. All I can say is, "Wow."

I've read complaints about the plot, but I didn't think the plot mattered that much. (It was predictable, but still a good story.) The important part was the visual world created for the movie. It was absolutely amazing. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Be sure you see it in 3D. It's not the gimmicky ladder-in-the-face 3D. Just 3D that makes you feel like you are actually in the movie. It's PG-13, so there is some bad language. For a movie with lots of military characters, though, the language is pretty tame. It's also super long, but unlike the Lord of the Rings series, I didn't find myself checking the time once. I only wished it would keep going. I'd love to go back to planet Pandora and learn more about life there. Somebody has a really good imagination!

For Nicole

My niece, Nicole has been giving me friendly reminders that it's time to update my post-it notes. (After all, New Moon came out in November, and it's January already!) She also suggested that since I was looking forward to it for so long, a review is in order. So, here goes:

Steve and I went with my sister Haley to a late-night showing while we were in Michigan. I'm afraid that my Twilight-loving friends are going to be a little disappointed with my review. I thought the movie was--well--funny. I don't think it was supposed to be a comedy. I love the Twilight books, but some things just don't translate to the big screen without becoming a little silly.

Don't get me wrong. I liked the movie. I had to laugh at Steve's reaction, though. The movie ended, and he turned to me and gave me a look like, "That's it? We came out in the freezing cold to see that?" We just had to laugh. If you don't take the movie to seriously, it's much more enjoyable.

After I overcame my dizziness from the room spinning as the months of Edward's absence flew by (a clever move by the director, but it's too bad Bella's depression went on so long--It was a few too many trips around the room for me), I found myself liking this movie better than the last one. It's because Edward wasn't in it very much! I'm not a Robert Pattinson fan (sorry, my friends). In real life, I think he's cocky and a little creepy. My main problem with him is the way he acts the part of Edward. I didn't picture Edward as always depressed and moody. I quite enjoyed the Werewolves. The special effects were really cool.

All in all, I enjoyed the movie, but I think it has to be watched with kind of a silly attitude. After all, a girl falling in love with a vampire and a werewolf is a little silly! (I happen to enjoy that type of silliness, but I know not everyone does.)

So, there's my review. Better than the last movie, but still not as great as it could be (if different actors played Bella and Edward).
